Man fatally shot at parking lot in El Cerrito shopping center; police searching for 2 suspects

A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of El Cerrito's Del Norte Plaza on Sunday afternoon, with police seeking two individuals allegedly responsible who fled the scene.

Officers from multiple departments responded to the shooting at the shopping center located at 11299 San Pablo Ave. at approximately 12:23 p.m., according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

Witnesses reported that a young man was involved in an altercation with two men near his parked vehicle close to the Los Moles Beer Garden restaurant.

The victim was discovered with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene after resuscitation attempts failed.

The two suspected shooters fled in a dark sedan heading southbound on South 56th Street. Police identified the vehicle as "a gray Nissan Maxima, 2016 or newer."

One suspect was described as wearing a black mask and black North Face jacket; the other wore a hat and black Nike jacket.

Anyone with information should contact the El Cerrito Police Department at 510-237-3233. The department is leading the homicide investigation, with additional officers from Kensington and Richmond police departments responding.

This marks the city's first homicide in three years.
